Catherine's Yearly Festive Carol Concert Honours Community Volunteers

Catherine, Princess of Wales, is presiding over her annual Yuletide celebration at the historic Abbey, with guests including dignitaries, stars, and everyday helpers who have helped their communities.

The 1,600 guests will hear a blend of traditional hymns, orchestral pieces, and literary excerpts from actors such as Kate Winslet and Chiwetel Ejiofor.

A Theme of Compassion and Love

The focus of the concert, held in the atmospheric historic church on the afternoon, is generosity and expressing affection towards one's neighbour.

Among the guests will be a couple named the Cordiners, whose child passed away from a brain tumour, and who established a foundation, Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to support families who have a child with a terminal illness.

"The dedication, empathy, and kindness you show, often quietly and unspoken, and without any thought of thanks or praise, make an profound impact to the circumstances of individuals," wrote Catherine in a letter ahead of the festive gathering.

A Steady Comeback

The princess has been making her own measured re-emergence to public life after her cancer diagnosis and chemotherapy, last month delivering her initial major address in two years, in which she discussed recognising the "selfless, commonly overlooked efforts of carers".

Music and Opportunity

Guests arriving at the Abbey will enjoy performances from talented youth performers backed by the Future Talent charity, established in part by the Duchess of Kent to broaden opportunities for musical tuition.

Carys Wood, aged 18, who performs on the trumpet and is from Wales, has been assisted by the trust, with grants helping towards musical instruments, lessons and travel costs - and she said it was "incredible" to be performing at the evening's event.

"Music can be very expensive," she stated. She is now enrolled at the renowned conservatoire, and added that "all people deserve the chance" to cultivate their performance abilities.

A Sisterly Duo

Eliza, Carys's sister who is 11, who performs on the brass instrument, will also be at the Abbey. "I never thought I'd be able to play there in front of so many important people," she said.

Attending the service will be individuals spanning multiple eras.

That will include young Saphia Turner, nine, winner of a youth community award, who sells artwork and carries out sponsored challenges to generate funds for community pantries.

Yuletide Atmosphere and Acts

The Abbey has been festooned with custom-created holiday decorations, with well-known chef Mary Berry and flower expert Simon Lycett assisting in their creation.

The musical lineup includes Katie Melua, the Abbey's own choir and a Cornish sea shanty group, the Fisherman's Friends, who said the chance to take part was "a dream come true."

The Together at Christmas carol concert will be aired by ITV1 on Christmas Eve.
