A 14-year-old boy was found dead just days after being wrongly accused of stealing the cremated remains of a dead infant during a burglary, an inquest has heard.

Tragic Finding

The young boy's parents discovered his remains in his room at his Flintshire residence on November 19th, 2021.

Untrue Accusations Start

The investigation learned how his mother got a communication on November 8th, 2021 via social media, from a individual inquiring if Kai was her offspring. The communication added: "Inform him thanks for burgling my flat."

In a testimony read to the proceedings, the mother said the woman had been in the media, asserting her baby's remains had been taken in a burglary - a claim which was untrue.

Law Enforcement Investigation

An official inquiry from police later determined the alleged burglary complainant had "provided false information" and "it now appears that said items was never stolen in the first place".

News coverage about the alleged taken ashes generated online responses, and although Kai was not named in the messages, his parent said individuals "knew it was him".

The "social media content were extremely upsetting", she said.

Mental Health Effect

She added that her son had been diagnosed with mild attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, and as part of that disorder, other peoples' views genuinely mattered to him.

"This must have hurt him deeply," she commented, "particularly when this was untrue".

The teenager was detained at home, but nothing was discovered. He was taken to a police station and later freed under investigation.

Authorities said they would be in contact, the hearing heard, but had not reached out to the family by the time of his passing.

Withdrawal and Worry

His parent said her son "withdrew into himself" after the arrest and "would keep asking me whether I had received anything from the authorities", because his ADHD meant sometimes "certain periods could feel like much longer".

When she spoke to him about the supposed incident, she said her child told her he had entered the house because the woman who lived there had said he could utilize the toilet whenever he needed, but denied removing anything.

Digital Harassment

In a joint statement between her and her husband, Mrs Lloyd said her son was being bullied digitally after the accusations.

The proceedings heard that a 19-year-old urged the teenager to kill himself.

She had no worries on the night before he passed away, describing how she had listened to him "chuckling and teasing".

She portrayed him as a "compassionate, loving" boy, and said her "relatives is totally devastated".

He had been "clearly hiding his concerns", she said, noting that he could not bear to have anyone "have negative thoughts of him".

Educational Response

The inquest heard from school staff at Connah's Quay High School.

On November 8th, she "overheard some boys discussing that Kai had been arrested and that was the initial I learned".

"He told me... he'd was innocent," she added.

After the conversation, the staff member said she rang the family's family landline and left a voicemail saying she had communicated to the student about the accusations.

The court learned his parents said they did not receive that message.

Formal Conclusion

Lead investigator told the inquest he would await reports regarding what enhancements had been made to dealing with suspects with the condition, before deciding whether he should make a avoidance of future deaths report.

Delivering a narrative conclusion, he stated: "Approximately November 8th, 2021, unsubstantiated accusations were made against Kai Benjamin Lloyd, a 14-year-old individual.

"Likely untruths were subsequently embellished and exaggerated through the platform of social media.

"During November 11th, he was questioned by the authorities and after his interview he was released whilst investigations continued."

The official determined: "Exists no proof that the acts or failures of any organization led to or contributed to his passing and although it was the outcome of a personal act it is not possible to determine his intent."
